The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has engaged representatives of civil society organisations on security concerns surrounding the forthcoming Osun State Governorship Election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
IGP Disu met with the CSOs, led by Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Executive Director, CISLAC, and representatives of YIAGA Africa, Nigerian Women Trust Fund, Kimpact Development Initiative, Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, Partners West Africa, CLEEN Foundation and others on Friday, August 7, 2026,
A release by CSP Ani Iniedu, Force Public Relations Officer said the CSOs presented observations and recommendations on election security, including voter protection, political violence, misinformation and the participation of vulnerable groups.
Disu assured them that the concerns raised would be given due consideration and necessary action taken.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to professionalism, impartiality and neutrality throughout the election.
He assured that adequate personnel would be deployed to polling units, with special attention given to persons with disabilities to facilitate their safe participation.
Describing the election as particularly significant as the last off-cycle election before the 2027 General Elections, the IGP called on all stakeholders to support a peaceful and credible process that strengthens public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.
He further called for continued collaboration with CSOs through timely sharing of credible information and responsible public communication before, during and after the election.
The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to strengthening its operational preparedness and protecting the democratic process throughout the electoral period.

Meanwhile, the IGP has approved the deployment of Commissioners of Police to state commands and strategic formations across the country.
This followed the approval of his recommendations by the Police Service Commission.
Force PRO, CSP Iniedu, said: “The deployment is aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, enhancing leadership across commands and formations, and consolidating the ongoing reform and repositioning of the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly deployed Commissioners of Police to state commands are as follows; CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo (Abia), CP Ayodeji Faniyan (Plateau), CP Saka Adewale Ajao (Bayelsa), CP Ajo Geofrey Ordue (Cross River), CP Nanna Oji Ama (Anambra), CP Patrick Daaor (Edo), CP Tani Murtala (Jigawa), and CP Samuel Erale (Delta).
Other approved deployments are as follows; CP Yemi John Oyeniyi (Intelligence & Training, Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja); CP Charles Ezekwesiri Dike (INTERPOL, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja); CP Aina Adesola (Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), Department of Training and Development (DTD), Force Headquarters (FHQ), Abuja); CP Uduak Ita Otu (Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT), Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos); and CP Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf (General Investigation (G.I), Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja).
The deployments include: CP Taiwo A. Adedeji (Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Force Headquarters, Abuja); CP Ajayi Oluyemi (Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT), Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja); CP Bolanle Aremu (Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), Force Headquarters, Abuja); CP Ibrahim Lukunche Usman (Inspectorate, Department of Training and Development (DTD), Force Headquarters, Abuja); CP Mohammed Hassan Ahmed (Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College (PSC), Jos); CP Rita Oyintare Oki (Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos); CP Ibrahim Umar D. Zungura (Administration, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Kaduna); and CP Nelson Nwamana (Training & Courses, Police Academy (POLAC), Kano).
Others are: CP Akingbade C. Adeyinka (Administration, Force Intelligence Department (FID), Force Headquarters, Abuja); CP Iya Umar Mohammed (Training, Department of Training and Development (DTD), Force Headquarters, Abuja); CP Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu (Anti-Fraud, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Kaduna); CP Mohammed Yakubu (Welfare, Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), Force Headquarters, Abuja), and CP Danbaba Mohammed Labbo (Administration, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Gombe).
Iniedu said the Inspector-General of Police has charged the affected senior officers to bring their wealth of experience to bear in their new assignments by strengthening intelligence-led policing, enhancing operational effectiveness, promoting professionalism, and deepening community engagement in line with the vision of the Force.
“He urged them to remain steadfast in safeguarding lives and property while upholding the highest standards of discipline, accountability, and service delivery.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to strategic personnel deployments as a key component of its ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening internal capacity, and delivering more effective policing services to all Nigerians,” the Force Public Relations Officer said.
