The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) has donated school bags and other learning materials to pupils of FAAN International School as part of efforts to boost education standards in the airport community.
President of Rotary PHIA, Ngozi Onyeanwuna, said the club decided to invest in the dreams and aspirations of young learners by providing essential educational materials that will support their academic journey.
“This initiative is more than a donation; it is a statement of hope and opportunity,” she said.
Onyeanwuna said the presentation, part of the club’s Basic Education and Literacy Project, “once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and community development.”
She said that the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt International Airport, being strategically positioned within Nigeria’s aviation community, is uniquely placed to build meaningful partnerships that deliver sustainable, high‑impact humanitarian projects.
“The club remains committed to serving as a bridge between the aviation industry and the communities it serves, creating opportunities that positively impact lives and inspire lasting change,” she said.
Onyeanwuna added that the project also reflects Rotary International’s global mission of advancing education, promoting peace, fighting disease, protecting the environment, supporting economic development, and strengthening communities through selfless service.
She expressed the club’s “heartfelt appreciation to the management of Port Harcourt International Airport, ably represented by Mr. Anthony Ukut, Deputy General Manager/Regional Head, Legal Services, for their invaluable support.
“We also sincerely appreciate our District Adviser, Rtn. Chris Ugechi; our Supervising District Assistant, Rtn. Joy Madukanya; the Chairman of the FAAN International School Board, Mr. Onyekachi Idu, Deputy General Manager/Head of Human Resources; the head teacher, teachers, parents, aviation stakeholders, fellow Rotarians, partners, and every supporter whose generosity and commitment made this impactful project a reality.
“We equally acknowledge and appreciate our mother club, the Rotary Club of Rebisi Kingdom, for its mentorship, guidance, and unwavering support in helping us grow into a vibrant and service‑driven club,” she said.
Onyeanwuna urged aviation agencies, corporate organisations, development partners, and well‑meaning individuals to join the Rotary Club of PHIA in expanding the frontiers of service.
“Together, we can empower more children, strengthen more communities, and create sustainable solutions that leave lasting footprints for generations to come.
“Today, we presented more than school bags. We invested in dreams. We inspired hope. We strengthened the future. Above all, we reaffirmed our commitment to creating lasting impact through education—one child, one community, and one act of service at a time,” she said.
