Apiafi Vows Full Support for Women Empowerment, Partners PHCCIMA

Former Senator Betty Okagua-Apiafi has been conferred with the prestigious title of Honorary Life Vice President of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHACCIMA).

‎The event, which took place during a courtesy visit to the PHCCIMA President, Dr. Chinyere Nwoga, marked a significant step in strengthening public-private sector ties for socio-economic advancement of Rivers State and Nigeria.

‎Dr. Nwoga while receiving the former lawmaker, said the occasion is a pivotal moment for collaboration. She praised Senator Apiafi’s pioneering journey as the first woman from Rivers State to serve in both the House of Representative and the Senate.

‎The PHCCIMA president spotlighted the senator’s lasting impact on economic development, education, women’s empowerment, and youth initiatives, including her ongoing service on the Board of Governors at Brookstone Schools in Port Harcourt.

‎Dr. Nwoga proposed robust joint efforts, such as linking academia with industry via internships, mentorship programs, workshops, career guidance sessions, and policy advocacy to equip youths with essential modern skills and entrepreneurial mindsets. She noted that the visit solidifies vital connections between government and the private sector, expressing keen anticipation for Senator Apiafi’s expertise in delivering tangible, enduring benefits to chamber members, young people and women.

‎In her remarks, Senator Apiafi expressed deep appreciation for the honor and pledged her dedication to PHCCIMA’s mission- particularly in championing opportunities for women, youth, and entrepreneurs. She highlighted ongoing barriers, including limited support for women to grow their businesses and knowledge gaps impeding progress, and called for greater emphasis on education and skills development.

‎Lauding Nwoga’s passionate advocacy, the former lawmaker emphasized the need for collective effort, saying women must take active roles in shaping high-level decisions and policies rather than merely receiving assistance.

‎She urged women to support one another while encouraging strong backing from men, committing to deploy all available resources to empower the next generation and exceed expectations through close collaboration with the Dr. Chinyere Nwoga-led PHCCIMA leadership.
