Etche Indigenes Urge Council Chairman To Build Agro-Industries

‎A group, The Concerned Citizens of Etche,

‎have expressed outrage over the Etche Local Government Chairman, Hon. Chima Boniface Njoku’s plan to construct a new office block and chairman’s lodge, describing it as a gross misallocation of resources.

‎In a statement signed by Dike Blessing, General Coordinator of the group, they questioned the necessity of the project given the presence of a functional office building at the Etche Local Government Secretariat. “The current office building is adequate and in use. We see no justification for building another at this time,” the statement read.

‎They urged the chairman to redirect public funds towards agro-industrial development, which they believe would better serve the people by creating jobs and driving economic growth. “Etche is rich in agricultural potential. Rather than constructing office structures, the chairman should focus on establishing agro-industries capable of generating employment, stimulating the local economy, and boosting internally generated revenue,” they emphasized.

‎The proposed chairman’s lodge was described as an unjustifiable extravagance, especially considering the absence of basic amenities for many residents. “Building a chairman’s lodge is not only wasteful but also reflects poor sensitivity to the real needs of Etche people,” the statement added.

‎They concluded by urging Hon. Chima Njoku to reconsider his decision and focus on projects that deliver tangible benefits to the people. “We call on the chairman to abandon unnecessary luxuries and instead prioritize development projects that uplift the community,” the group stated.
