Court Grants Ogoni Traditional Rulers Leave To Resolve MOSOP Crisis

The Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers has lauded the Rivers State High Court sitting in Saakpenwa, Tai Local Government Area, for its recent ruling aimed at resolving the protracted leadership crisis within the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP).

In a significant decision, Justice D.G. Kio granted the request by the traditional rulers, led by King Samuel Nnee, to resolve the matter out of court. The court gave the traditional institution a two-month window to unify the leadership of MOSOP and bring lasting peace to the organization.

Recall that various factions of MOSOP and led by different individuals had laid legitimacy to the presidency of the organisation.

Reacting to the court’s directive, King Samuel Nnee, Gbenemene of Tai Kingdom and coordinator of the Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers, expressed deep appreciation for the judicial support.

He emphasized the importance of a united and peaceful MOSOP, especially as a step towards reopening discussions on the resumption of oil production in Ogoni land.

King Nnee also announced plans to form a neutral and inclusive reconciliation committee to engage the various factions of MOSOP, with the goal of restoring unity and focus within the movement.

The king also tookma swipe at previous MOSOP leaders for actions he said had undermined the organization’s founding spirit and global relevance.

He stressed the need to revive the core vision that once positioned MOSOP as a symbol of resistance and advocacy on the international stage.

He regretred that MOSOP has lost out on so many things including the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project ,HYPREP, which he said the organization fought for.
