Diobu Women Protest against PHED over Heat-Induced ‘Lack of Romance’

By Mandy Tina

Women residing in Diobu, Port Harcourt, have protested to the office of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) over the inability of their husbands to engage in conjugal relations as a result of the “incessant poor power supply in the area.”

The women, who were carrying placards with several inscription such as ‘No Light No Bill,’ ‘The Heat is too much,’ amongst others, marched through Wokoma Lane, Obaziolu, Dim Lane, Egbuagu, Azikiwe, Ojoto streets in Diobu before proceeding to the PHED office at Mile 1, Port Harcourt.

The women said they cannot be paying for darkness, stressing that their husbands are no longer touching them at night due to excessive heat wave.

They lamented that they can no longer preserve their cooked and perishable food stuffs given the untold hardship in the country, adding their businesses are shutting down on daily basis due to poor power supply.

They however warned that they would re-mobilize and embark on another peaceful protest should the power outage continue.

No official of PHED Mile 1 office came to interact with the protesting women as at the time our correspondent left the scene.
