26 Persons Cheat Death As Boats Collide, Capsize In Rivers

No fewer than 26 passengers escaped death on Saturday after to two fiber boats collided and capsized in the Mgbudohia/Eagle Island/Agip River area of Rivers State.

Sources told our correspondent that no life was lost in the accident, which occurred in the morning hours of the day.

A boat operator at one of the jetties who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the incident, adding that one of the boats was at full capacity with 15 passengers, while the other had just 8 passengers and the boat captain on board.

“One of the boats, precisely that of Main ‘Market Jetty’ was going back to Mgbudohia after loading across while the other boat from ‘Market-by-Obi’ was returning from Mgbudohia,” he said.

The boat operator said no lives were lost, as all passengers from the capsized boats were rescued alive. “We thank God that nobody died, but their properties like phones, goods and many others were lost and destroyed.”
