Evwreni-born philanthropist and former Executive Director of Projects (EDP) of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Engr. Dr. Samuel Adjogbe, has urged the Unenurhie people to vote the right candidates into the different political offices in the incoming general elections in Delta State and at the federal level.
Dr. Adjogbe, who is described as a peace maker and “saviour of Unenurhie community” by her leaders and residents, made the appeal when he paid a courtesy visit to the leaders and the people of the community after marking his birthday anniversary at his Evwreni residence.
Addressing a crowd of men, women, and youths that gathered at the community town hall, venue of the meeting, Dr. Adjogbe said, “My great people of Unenurhie, I won’t say a different thing than what the president of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari told all Nigerians. He said Nigerians should vote for the right candidates during the general elections and not based on party affiliations or membership. This is the same message I also bring to you as my own people.
“Vote the right candidates and don’t ever be intimidated or influenced with money by anybody. Because of my love for you, I can’t tell you to follow the wrong political path or follow the path of darkness in these general elections. We should vote for the right candidates who can bring the needed changes to the polity and governance; candidates that can bring the dividends of democracy to the grassroots and the local people. As the elections are drawing very close, I promise to pay a second visit for another round table meeting.”
Responding, president-general of Unenurhie community, Mr. Peter Maison, said, “On behalf of the entire community, we want to assure you that, as you are always there for us on all occasions, we are also there for you on all occasions. We can’t easily forget that person who covered us during the rains at the time when the sun shines. You are a true son of the Unenurhie community that we so much respect and honour in all ramifications.
“You are our political leader, a saviour, and a peace maker of this community. As a community, you can see that you are carrying light on your head. We strongly believe that you can’t lead us astray in this political race. We have so many needs and challenges as a community. This is why it’s important and necessary for us to vote for those candidates who can directly attend to our needs when they finally be in the government.
“Again, we want to commend you for the kindness, generosity, and love you continuously display to this community at every time. In fact, you are not the only maternal son we have from the Evwreni kingdom. There are many other sons from Evwreni kingdom whose mothers are from Unenurhie here. I want to appeal to them to emulate you in every good thing you do to us. We have no words to express our appreciation to you,” he said.
Also speaking during the meeting, the Otota ‘Rode (Speaker) of the Unenurhie community, Engr. (Chief) Frank Imudje, commended Dr. Adjogbe for “his good works to the community, ranging from scholarship schemes to students, youth and women empowerments, support to community development, and many other charitable works.” The Otota ‘Rode, however, called on Unenurhie people to “listen to the voice of Dr. Adjogbe as a political leader with a clear vision and mission on how to give Unenurhie community her rightful place in the politics of Evwreni Ward and that of the state.”
Dr. Adjogbe’s visit to Unenurhie people, which witnessed the performance of a cultural dance, ended with the presentation of kola nut and drinks in accordance with the tradition and custom of the people of Unenurhie and Evwreni kingdom in general.
