2 Police Officers Sustain Injuries, As Gunmen Kidnap Man, Kill Aide in Rivers

Two Police officers on Monday sustained different degrees of injuries while chasing suspected kidnappers who abducted a yet to be identified man and killed his aide in Rivers State.

Our correspondent reports that the incident happened along Obiri Ikwerre axis of the East West Road, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Eyewitness account disclosed that the Police vehicle had summersaulted when its driver lost control after the kidnappers shot at the officers.

According to the eyewitness, the kidnappers fled the scene with their abductee while the injured officers and dead aide to the abductee were taken to an undisclosed hospital.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident.

SP Iringe-Koko noted that no Police officer died but they sustained injuries and they had been taken to undisclosed hospital, adding that the commissioner of Police, Effiong Okon, had since deployed tactical teams and ordered for unconditional release of the abducted man.
